December 2, 2020

Though small in size, Netherlands has given rise to some big foodtech success stories. Two stand outs include plant-based Vegeterian Butcher which was acquired by Unilever in 2018, and Picnic, the low price online supermarket that’s raised €350M in funding since 2015.

And in recent years, thanks to initiatives like the FoodValley and public-private partnerships between science, academia, industry and government, the country has become a powerhouse for food innovations and a leader in plant-based protein companies

So it’s no surprise that our FoodTech Netherlands list, unlike the Israel, Switzerland or Sweden lists, favors the countries alt-protein players - from cultured meats, to plant-based foods whilst also mixing in some high tech agtech startups, commerce businesses and more.
