Here’s 5 Future FoodTech ideas we’re watching

The other week I wrote about 3 foodtech related ideas that I think might have potential. I've since chatted with several people working on these and curated the ones that you need to know - plus added two bonus ideas at the bottom 👀

In short, the ideas were:

  1. An influencer groceries list (this one was controversial)
  2. Alt-protein service providers (this was the most obvious)
  3. Directory of vetted foodtech service providers (this was the most in demand)

#1 - Influencer Groceries 🛒

Not surprisingly, Idea #1 was the most controversial with feedback including:

"I am little hesitant about letting influencers pick my groceries"
"Groceries tend to be particular to households. Also, maybe this will only work for more affluent demographics but not people on fixed incomes?"
"I don't think this would replace the bread and the pasta that mom usually buys, or save time at all"

For some reason, I'm still bullish on this idea 🤷if you' re building this - let me know and I'll try help.

#2 - Alt-protein agencies ✍️

Idea #2 was a hit - we ended up writing a Trends report on this. There's so many opportunities, from plant-based consumer research to specialised agencies - if you have a business in this space, let me know and we'll update our Trends piece.

Here's just a few of the one's we found:

#3 - Service Provider Directory 👀

Idea #3 was in the highest demand. With multiple startups, service providers and investors chiming in that to say they would use (and pay) for this.

"#3 is very much needed. Food entrepreneurs coming from other industries need to rely on the experience of the comanufacturers to scale up"
"Would totally use idea 3 right now - if it was available I’d ask you to sign me up for beta testing if you hear of it happening"
"We’d love to be in the directory. Happy to be peer reviewed!"

 Here's a few solutions:

Plus, FoodHack reader Maya Benami is working on an idea in this space with some traction and is now looking for partners - contact Maya to find out more.

💡 My Predictions - One of the FoodTech accelerators should build this - BIV, ProVeg, Brinc, etc. - if you're reading this, get on it.

 + 2 Bonus ideas

#4 - FoodTech Deals Marketplace 💸

Idea #4 - FoodTech Deals Marketplace - curating all foodtech deals and investors in one place (disclaimer: we're working on this 👀). Here's some solution already available on the market:

#5 - FoodTech Venture Studios 🚀

Idea #5 - FoodTech venture studios.

Venture Studios is nothing new - but its a gaining speed in foodtech. Check out:

💡My thoughts: Future venture studios will poach corporate talents looking for a career change and pair them with rising entrepreneurs in this space.
