The list highlights vegan entrepreneur Miyoko Schinner of Miyoko’s Creamery, alongside Lisa Feria of food tech VC Stray Dog Capital and Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris.

🧬 Precision nutrition startup DayTwo closed $37M for its app that provides users customized diet recommendations based on their gut bacteria through artificial intelligence, microbiome sequencing, and other clinical measures, to help those with diabetic and metabolic diseases.

🍔 Spanish plant-based meat startup Heura raised €4M in just 24 hours after launching its campaign on crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, having tripled its turnover in 2020.

🚛 Indian food delivery app/logistics platform Delhivery raised $277M in preparation for an IPO due to take place next year. It claims to have fulfilled over 800 million orders since it was established in 2011 and to be “largest independent” B2C logistics provider in the country.

🧬 Precision nutrition startup DayTwo closed $37M for its app that provides users customized diet recommendations based on their gut bacteria through artificial intelligence, microbiome sequencing, and other clinical measures, to help those with diabetic and metabolic diseases.

🍔 Spanish plant-based meat startup Heura raised €4M in just 24 hours after launching its campaign on crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, having tripled its turnover in 2020.

🌻 Swiss plant-based meat startup Planted, which makes its products from peas, oats and upcycled sunflowers, received investment from FoodTech-focused investor Gullspång Re:food. The company also recently launched a heck of a good looking plant based schnitzel into foodservice channels.

🥭 Food waste-fighter Apeel and Nature’s Pride announced the launch of Apeel-protected mangoes with double the shelf life of unprotected mangoes, which already have a higher rate of spoilage due to long transit times from tropical countries, building on the success of its Apeel-protected avocados.

🍔 Future Meat Technologies teased with delicious Lamburgers for international hamburger day. The catch? No slaughter, non-GMO and made from cultured meat.

🍼 North Carolina-based female-founded cellular agriculture startup Biomilq has successfully produced the world’s first cell-cultured human breastmilk, putting it at “the forefront of lactation science” and primed to disrupt the soon-to-be $103B infant formula industry.

🐟Aqua Cultured Foods has launched what it claims is the world’s first whole-muscle cut seafood analogue developed using microbial fermentation, carving out a new category and marking itself as a first mover in the space.

🐑 Aussie cell-based startup Magic Valley has launched as the first food tech in the country to cultivate lamb meat, potentially disrupting the country’s position as the world’s largest sheep exporter.

♻️ Food Waste Hero, which has been rescuing foods from retailers and distributing them to food banks since 2016, has now announced that it will be offering home delivery of food that its volunteers rescue, operated through its app, which is good news for those who face food insecurity.

🍴Tesla just filed trademarks for restaurant services, including take-out, self-service, and pop-up restaurants. In 2018, Elon tweeted that he was “Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant" at a Tesla Supercharger station in LA. So who knows, there might soon be another reason to go electric.

🐟 Hooked Foods trialed out their plant-based Toonish wraps with Swedish locals and sold out in just a few hours. They look pretty convincing to us.

🤳 Squeaky bean launched a "foodie influencer house", giving select social media influencers the opportunity to spend three weeks in a luxury residence and create content whilst being challenged to go plant-based for the full 21-day duration of their stay.

🌱 Australian regenerative food and agriculture firm WOA has successfully used its Modified Lupin Concentrate to develop a variety of plant-based products, including plant-based milks, meat alternatives, snacks, and protein supplements.

🧀 British plant-based dairy brand Violife has launched a vegan BBQ pack in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK. It contains three varieties of plant-based cheese: Violife BBQ Slices; Violife Greek White; and Violife Mediterranean Style Block.

🇸🇪 IKEA Hong Kong has partnered with Green Monday’s Omnifoods to create a special dish to celebrate the National Day of Sweden on 6th June, a pasta dish that includes a breaded OmniPork cutlet shaped like a Dala Horse, the traditional Swedish carved and painted wooden horse statues.

🍕British vegan pizza brand One Planet Pizza just launched the UK’s first frozen plant-based Cheezy Doughballs in partnership with popular vegan cheese brand Applewood Vegan.

🇭🇷 The Croatian Agriculture Ministry is backing a new production plan, devised by non-profit organisation Animal Friends Croatia, to encourage domestic producers to produce and sell vegan products and promote the visibility of plant-based products and sustainable diets.

🤷‍♂️ Nestle got into some hot water this week after a leaked internal presentation found that 63% of Nestlé products don't meet a "recognized definition of health". Nestlé responded that it’s updating nutrition standards and its health strategy, and highlighted improvements in recent years, including reducing sugars and sodium in products by about 15%. The multinationals Twitter bio continues to state they are "Unlocking the power of food to enhance quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come".

🍗 US meat processing giant JBS Foods was subject to a major cyber attack which forced it to close several of its sites in the US and Australia on Monday (31st May), and it is still trying to recover.

🐄 Walmart has unveiled its McLaren Farms brand, a product of investment into its own supply chain program for Angus beef, which it established to meet consumer demand for traceable beef products bearing clean labels from a transparent supply chain.

🚙 McDonald’s is testing AI-powered drive-thrus in ten of its Chicago locations. Instead of humans, artificial intelligence systems will take orders with around 85% accuracy, reducing wait times and allowing the stores to redeploy its in-store workforce.

🍗 Pringles has partnered with Wendy’s to get after the fried chicken craze and introduce a new limited edition flavour, Wendy’s Spicy Chicken, having challenged its R&D team to duplicate the flavour in a single-bite product. Wendy's are also not-so-famously known for their savage tweets, like this one.

🍝 Pasta maker Barilla is looking for startups to take part in the fourth Good Food Makers global accelerator in the categories of promoting a circular economy, improving food delivery, developing digital nutrition guides and creating easy meal routines.

🌎 ICL Group has launched ICL Planet Start Hub to support foodtech and agritech startups making a positive and sustainable environmental impact.
