📈 What’s Up: Kraft Heinz has been ordered to pay $62M by the Securities Exchange Commission as part of an accounting fraud settlement, in which two executives were charged.

💰 According to new data from AgFunder, agrifoodtech startups have raised $24 billion globally in the first half of 2021, already coming close to the record-breaking total, $30 billion, that was raised in 2020.

📉 What’s Down: The Biden Administration is planning to crack down on price fixing in the meat industry, an issue that has been in the news a lot lately with many fines being handed out to big players, and will invest $1.4M to support small producers and processors affected by the pandemic.

🤷‍♂️ Misleading labels - a flurry of litigation by advocacy groups seeks to combat what they say is a rise in deceptive marketing by food giants - from Tyson’s “all natural” chickens to Cargill’s “ “independent family farmers” turkeys.

🧫The USDA is seeking comments and information on how to label cell-based meat products, to help inform the federal government as it develops a regulatory framework for the sector.
